About Helene Kay
Helene Kay is a charismatic woman who excels at avoiding eye contact in awkward situations. This ability to shut down internally while life around her gets uncomfortable has lead Helene to develop a sense of humor that critics (family and friends) have called, “Please stop this is a funeral.”
Her perspective has always been shaped by being the outsider looking in. When she was younger she did not fit in being the only Filipino in a predominately white Christian school in Orange County. When she was relocated to Stockton, California (or as Forbes Magazine affectionately frequently calls it, “the most miserable city in America”) she was the only person that didn’t share the same affinity for hip-hop and designer sneakers.
Helene studied screenwriting at Vanguard University before leaving for the exciting fast-paced life of moving back with her parents. Rather than run away from her closeted comedy love Helene leaned into it as the Ted Talks encouraged. She has trained at ComedySportz and is taking several classes at the Groundlings. Nowadays, Helene performs improv all over Orange County. She’s on an all-female improv team called “Lady Bits!” at the Improv Collective. She is also a frequent guest player at Improv Shimimprov.
In 2018, she was cast as one of the leads in an improvised play called “Post Apocalyptic Bunker Comedy”. In this play, she created a character and a plot with her fellow actors entirely based on the suggestions of the audience.
Helene also has written for several short college short films and for the Youtuber, “Homeless Minor Leaguer”. When she isn’t writing she’s also performing stand-up in comedy clubs, charity events, colleges, and churches.
